TheFlap is a small, private, friends-only social app. This page explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the rules everyone agrees to by using it. We keep things simple and we do not sell your data — ever.
1. Information we handle
What you provide
- A display name you choose (this is public to other members).
- A password, which is never stored directly — only a scrambled one-way hash of it is saved, so no one (including us) can read your password.
- A profile picture and any photos, posts, replies, and moods you choose to share. Anything you post is visible to other members of the app.
- Any direct messages you send to other members.
What the app stores automatically
- A "last seen" timestamp so the app can show who is currently online.
- If you turn on notifications, a device notification token used only to deliver alerts to you. You can turn this off any time in your device settings.
We do not collect your real name, phone number, home address, precise location, contacts, or browsing history.
2. How your information is used
Only to make the app work: to show your posts and profile to other members, to keep you logged in, to power the online indicator and notifications, and to let admins keep the community safe. That's it. We do not use your information for advertising and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
3. Where it's stored
Content is stored using Supabase, a hosted database and file-storage service, on our behalf. Data is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No system is perfectly secure, but access is limited to what the app needs to function.
Direct messages are stored on our servers and are not end-to-end encrypted. They may be reviewed by administrators when needed for safety, moderation, or to comply with the law. Please keep this in mind when messaging, and do not share sensitive personal information (such as passwords, financial details, or government IDs) in messages.
4. Your choices & deleting your account
You are in control of your data:
- Delete your account at any time from inside the app: open Your Page and tap Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, your flaps (posts), and your replies. This action cannot be undone.
- You can edit your profile picture or log out whenever you like.
- You can turn notifications off in your device settings.
5. Children
TheFlap is intended for teens and older within a private friend group and is not directed at children under 13. Please do not use the app if you are under the minimum age for your region. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will remove it.
6. Community Guidelines — zero tolerance
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior on TheFlap. By using the app you agree not to post content that is:
- harassing, bullying, threatening, or hateful toward any person or group;
- sexually explicit, nude, or exploitative — and never any content that sexualizes or endangers minors;
- violent, dangerous, or promoting self-harm;
- spam, scams, or impersonation;
- illegal, or that infringes someone else's rights.
Accounts that violate these rules may have content removed and may be permanently banned.
7. Reporting, blocking & moderation
Every member can help keep the community safe:
- Report any flap or user by tapping ⚑ report on a post, or Report user on a profile, and choosing a reason.
- Block any user with 🚫 block — you will no longer see their posts or replies.
- Moderation: reports go to our admin queue and are reviewed, with violating content and users removed, normally within 24 hours.
- Automated moderation: posts, replies, and direct messages are automatically screened for slurs, hate speech, and severe abuse. Matching content is blocked and flagged for an administrator; you can appeal an automated removal if you believe it was a mistake.
- Message oversight: to keep members safe, administrators may review direct messages. Messages are not private from moderation — please don't share sensitive personal information in them.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app means you accept the current version.
9. Contact
Questions, requests, or reports of abuse: contact the app owner at theflapsupport@gmail.com.
